Finding Peace and Hope
Just like each one of us is different, there is no one-size-fits-all resource on your healing journey. Below are some resources that have helped us. And please check out our podcasts and posts for additional resources shared by our guests.
Books- It is hard to know where to start. These are some books that helped many begin to find peace and direction in my life.
“Your Sexually Addicted Spouse: How Partners Can Cope and Heal” by Barbara Steffens- The best book I have found to explain what happens to your heart, mind, and body when there is betrayal trauma in a relationship. It also includes what you can do about it! Such a hopeful and powerful read!
“Boundaries” by Cloud & Townsend- I recommend this book to everyone. Boundaries are the key to healthy relationships. Marriages, parenting, friendship, work, and more. Boundaries are especially important when there is betrayal in your relationships. This book can help you learn to keep yourself safe and find more peace, no matter what the people around you choose.
“What Can I Do About Me” by Rhyll Croshaw- A great book about the journey to find healing through the trauma. Important points include: Recognizing that there is no way but through. Setting boundaries is the most loving thing I can do. Forgiveness is not the same as trust. I can’t, but He (God) can, and I will let Him. Having gratitude in the present moment. Self-care is His care. And more!
Music- “When I hear music, I fear no danger. I am invulnerable. I see no foe. I am related to the earliest times, and to the latest.” – Henry David Thoreau.
Music can help mourn, find strength, and heal. Music has been a powerful source of comfort and hope for many, so we wanted to share a few songs we love and have helped us at the end of each podcast.
Retreats- Getting away from the stress and pressures of everyday life can give you a chance to catch your breath. Reconnecting with God and yourself can been a game-changer for many seeking restoration from the damage done by betrayal trauma.
“The Heart of a Woman” retreat- Heart of a Woman retreat takes place spring and fall each year. This is a powerful retreat that helps you reconnect with God, be reminded of who you truly are, and take some time away too recharge. https://theheartofawoman.net/
Therapy and groups- A large factor in healing trauma is being seen and heard.
This can be through individual therapy, group, therapy, 12 step groups, and more. Learning about boundaries and betrayal trauma is vital in the journey to restoration. We encourage you to reach out and find connection. Although it may feel frightening, sharing in a safe space is a vital and important step toward healing.
